Today, Houstonians are celebrating 713 Day with an extra dose of pride and resilience. Why? Because our beloved city has just weathered Hurricane Beryl, a testament to the strength and unity that defines Houston.

For those who haven’t experienced Houston firsthand, let me tell you why this city holds a special place in the hearts of its residents, including myself, for the past two decades.

1. Diversity and Culture: Houston is a melting pot of cultures, cuisines, and communities. Whether you’re exploring the vibrant arts scene in the Museum District, sampling international flavors in Chinatown, or celebrating various festivals throughout the year, Houston embraces diversity like no other. In neighborhoods like the historic 3rd Ward and 5th Ward, you can immerse yourself in the rich history and culture that shaped these areas. From the iconic Emancipation Park in the 3rd Ward, a symbol of African-American heritage and community resilience, to the vibrant street art and cultural landmarks in the 5th Ward, Houston showcases its diversity through its neighborhoods.

2. Spirit of Resilience: Hurricane Beryl is just one example of how Houstonians come together in times of adversity. From natural disasters to economic challenges, the city’s resilience shines through in its people’s willingness to rebuild, support each other, and emerge stronger than before.

3. Opportunities and Growth: Houston is not just the Space City; it’s a hub of opportunity. With a booming economy driven by industries like energy, healthcare, and aerospace, the city attracts professionals and entrepreneurs from around the globe seeking new horizons and career advancement.

4. Sense of Community: Despite its size, Houston maintains a strong sense of community. Whether through neighborhood associations, local businesses, or volunteer efforts, residents actively engage in making their city a better place for everyone.

5. Cultural Landmarks: From the iconic NASA Johnson Space Center to the sprawling Hermann Park and the historic Galveston Island nearby, Houston offers a rich tapestry of landmarks and attractions that cater to every interest.

As someone who wasn’t born here but has spent the past two decades in Houston, I can attest to the warmth and opportunity this city has provided. Each day in Houston brings new discoveries, connections, and reasons to celebrate our shared resilience and community spirit.

On this special 713 Day, let’s celebrate Houstonโ€”the city that continues to grow, adapt, and inspire us all. Here’s to many more years of prosperity, diversity, and strength as we navigate the future together, hand in hand.

Happy 713 Day, Houston! The creations seen on this page were made to celebrate you!

They Not Like Us

Pop out and show emโ€™!

We enjoyed the lyrical battle between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. We may be a little biased because K. Dot has been a favorite of ours more than Drake. This song โ€œNot Like Usโ€ has the people going crazy! This is one for the hip hop history books.
How did you enjoy the battle?

Houston Screwston Love

This post is dedicated to the patches that we have created to celebrate Houston, Texas.

We weren’t born and raised in Houston, Tx, but Houston has shown us mad love since we have lived here. Sankofa is from New Orleans, Louisiana and Stacey is from San Antonio, Texas. Stacey moved to the Houston area in 2004 and Sankofa moved here in 2006. Sankofa & Stacey met in 2007, married in 2008 and have built a life and business of love. Although they decided to buy a home in Rosenberg, they are always finding reasons to be in the city limits of Houston.

Check out the patches below and some popular Houston locations. Our patches can be purchased on our Etsy website: www.etsy.com/shop/UniversalSankofa

TinBridge Productions

One Saturday morning, early 2019, I (Stacey) was down on myself because I wasn’t feeling well and I had a lot of business work planned. I decided that I was going to lay on the couch a little while, decompress, watch something on the t.v. for a while, and hopefully I would feel a little better to begin work later in the morning. As I was scrolling through YouTube, I found something that looked interesting. I watched one episode and before I knew it, I had binged the whole series of “Nine Months After” by TinBridge Productions. I found them on Instagram, started following them and fell in love with their dedication and love of marriage and family.

We were super honored when they reached out to ask if we would be interested in sending them some of our apparel to be used in their next project called “Project 8”. Well, Project 8 is here! We want you all to support this beautiful black owned production company by following their social media and purchasing their latest release. Read more below about this company and what they have to offer.

Tell us about your previous projects and where they can be found!

My previous projects all highlight various aspects of the Black experience. They are available for free via the following link: https://linktr.ee/tinbridgeproductions

Tell us about your new project!

This is the story of two best friends in their 20s who have known each other since 1st grade. One is on a quest to walk in his purpose while the other is finding it difficult to accept her truth. How will they help each other figure it out? Project 8 drops gems on the pursuit of becoming financially free and deals with the difficulties of breaking free from corporate life. Filmed in the city of Detroit in 2019. This is the Directorโ€™s (David Tinsley) first project shot in his native city since returning home from Southern California in 2018.

What is your “why”?

To exemplify positive, yet realistic images of Black people. We want to represent the hardworking, everyday underdog who rarely gets accounted for in the media. We aim to tell those stories with truth and integrity.
